Lesson Structure and Goals:
Private lessons are a great way to have fun and
more importantly give you extra one-on-one flute
instruction. We will work on:
-
Tone production, scales, and technical studies.
-
Band music, audition music such as All-State, chair test music,
and music for solo and ensemble contests.
-
Sight-reading and duets.
Missed Lessons and Cancellations:
Students are assigned a set lesson time
for the semester. If a lesson needs to be
cancelled or rescheduled a minimum of 24
hours notice is required (emergencies
excepted). Please call my cell phone so that I
will receive notice of any schedule changes
promptly. If the student is sick from school or
for any other reason misses a lesson and the
teacher has not been notified in advance, the
parent will be responsible for the cost
of that lesson.
Lessons that are cancelled with at
least 24 hours notice may be rescheduled or
credited to the next month. While I do my best
to keep up to date on the band/school schedule,
please realize I may not be aware of field
trips, after school rehearsals, concerts,, etc.,
so advance notice regarding these changes will
facilitate rescheduling and be greatly
appreciated.
Payment:
Payments are due at the first lesson of
each month and may be made in one of two ways:
by mailing to my home address or sending it with
the student to their lesson. Please note: if you
choose to mail payments to my home or have it
sent from your bank it is still due by the first
lesson of the month so please plan accordingly.
For your convenience, lessons will be billed for
one month at a time and I will email the new
bill during the last week of each previous
month. However, it is the responsibility of the
parent to make payments on time. If additional
payment arrangements are necessary please
contact me in advance.
Late Fees:
Any payment received after the first
lesson of the month is considered late and will
be subject to a mandatory $10 late fee.
Practice:
Aside from lessons, regular practice is the most important part of
musical study. Daily practice is expected with
one day off each week, as students will improve
much faster with consistent and regular
practice. Parents should encourage practice, as
well as, assist in acquiring required materials
in a reasonable amount of time. A minimum of 30
minutes daily is required for 6th/7th
grades and 45 minutes to 1 hour daily for high
school students. If you have any questions
regarding your lesson assignments during the
week feel free to contact me at home or through
email so that you can make the most of your
practice.
Resources for sheet music and supplies:
When ordering music, please make sure it is in stock. Music stores
will offer to back-order music for you, but it
may take a long time to arrive and in this
instance, it is probably better to order from
another location.
Questions:
Parents are more than welcome to stop
in to meet me or listen to their child's lesson
and, as always, if you have any questions
regarding your child's progress please do not
hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to working with you and
hope that flute lessons are an enjoyable musical
experience for you.
