Required Materials:

Piano
or Keyboard (students practicing on a keyboard will need
an adjustable keyboard stand)
-
An
inexpensive metronome

Sheet
music/lesson books and other materials as indicated by
the instructor. (Photocopies are not expected to be a
permanent replacement for original copies of music)
-
A
lined notebook to keep track of lesson assignments
Lesson
Structure and Goals:
Lessons
are structured to the individual needs of each student and
will include:
Missed
Lessons and Cancellations:
If a
lesson needs to be cancelled or rescheduled a minimum
of 24 hours notice is required (emergencies excepted).
Please call my cell phone so that I will receive notice of
any schedule changes promptly. If the student is sick from
school or for any other reason misses a lesson and the
teacher has not been notified in advance, the parent will
be responsible for the cost of that lesson.
Lessons
that are cancelled with at least 24 hours notice may be
rescheduled or credited to the next month.
While I
do my best to keep up to date on field trips, after school
activities, etc., I am not always aware of events which may
conflict with lessons so advance notice regarding these
changes will facilitate rescheduling and be greatly
appreciated.
Lesson
Times and Schedules:
The
lesson time you sign up for is available to you for the
entire school year. If you need to change your lesson time
changes will be made based on the availability of alternate
time slots. A student may discontinue lessons at any point
in the year, however refunds are not given for unused
lessons so students are encouraged complete the remaining
lessons in the month. Please notify teacher as far in
advance as possible if you will need to stop lessons so that
another student can be offered your spot.
Payment:
Payments
are due at the first lesson of each month and may be made in
one of two ways: by mailing to my home address or bringing
it to the first lesson of the month. For your convenience,
lessons will be billed one month at a time and I will send
the new bill home during the last week of each previous
month. If a student knows in advance they will miss a lesson
in the upcoming month please subtract that lesson from the
total due for that month and notify the teacher of the
schedule change. If additional payment arrangements are
necessary please contact me in advance.
Late
Fees:
Any
payment received after the first lesson of the month is
considered late and will be subject to a $5 late fee.
Practice:
Aside
from lessons, regular practice is the most important part of
musical study. Daily practice is expected with one day off
each week, as students will improve much faster with
consistent and regular practice. Parents should encourage
practice, as well as, assist in acquiring required materials
in a reasonable amount of time. A minimum of 10-15 minutes
daily is required for grades K-4 and 20 minutes daily for
grades 5-7. If you have any questions regarding your lesson
assignments during the week feel free to contact me at home
or through email so that you can make the most of your
practice.
Resources
for sheet music and supplies:
When
ordering music, please make sure it is in stock. Music
stores will offer to back-order music for you, but it may
take a long time to arrive and in this instance, it is
probably better to order from another location.
Questions:
Parents
are always welcome to stop in to meet me or listen to their
child’s lesson and, of course, if you have any questions
regarding your child’s progress please do not hesitate to
contact me. I look forward to working with you and hope that
piano lessons are an enjoyable musical experience for you.
