Required Materials for College/University Lessons
 

  • Flute, in working order.  A flute in disrepair does not constitute an excused absence.  A repair shop is located on campus and a nationally renowned flute repair shop is located 30 minutes south of UNT.

  • 3 Ring Binder Notebook (must arrive with you to each lesson):

Loose-leaf notebook paper and full size sheets of staff paper for notes from lessons.

Room to add handouts from lessons.

  • Please bring the piano part of your solo to your lesson each week

  • Metronome, with subdivision capabilities

            Doctor Beat (recommended)

  • Chromatic tuner

            The Korg Orchestral Tuner with 'soundback'capabilities (recommended)

            Clip-on Contact Microphone (recommended)

  • A tuning CD, choose one:

            "The Tuning CD" available at: www.thetuningcd.com    

            "TUNEUP" available at: www.tuneupsystems.com

  • Mini-disc recorder with microphone (highly recommended but not required)

  • Christine Ammer, The A to Z of Foreign Musical Terms 

  • Baxstresser, Orchestral Excerpts for Flute (published by Theodore Presser)

  • Reichert, Seven Daily Exercises for Flute, (Megido is fine)

  • Taffanel/Gaubert, 17 Grands Exercises for Flute (published by Alphonse Leduc) 

  • Wye, Practice Books for the Flute, Books 1 and 4. (I would recommend purchasing the  collection of all 5 books together. Published by Novello)

  • Additional music such as solos and etudes as determined by your teacher. It is expected that this music will be procured in a timely fashion.  Music can be purchased at Pender's in Denton or from  www.fluteworld.com online.
